The Indians did not like to see anything odd -- a white squirrel, for instance.. .. They thought such oddities were messages, were omens of evil.. .. And the Indians put a great deal of faith in dreams.

About This Quote

In the Native American culture, there were two types of dreams. The first type was a dream that you could do something to change your destiny. In this type of dream, you dreamed that you had done something wrong but you did not know the exact nature of the wrong thing. In this case, if you could go back in time and change what you had done in that life, then that dream was a sign that it would be possible to change your destiny.

The second type of dream was a warning. This type of dream would give you a chance to avoid a bad fate by doing something in your present life that would prevent it from coming true. If one could not recognize the difference between these two types of dreams, then they would misinterpret the message and bring about great suffering for themselves.
